Your Ladder of Success….Danielle’s Story

July 23rd, 2009

Danielle’s Story

I officially started my journey to entrepreneurship about 1 year ago. Since then I’ve experienced both the ups and downs that come with the territory. My biggest challenge has been finding those to join me in my endeavor. However, the feeling of freedom and fulfillment have been more than rewarding.

In five years, I imagine myself in various parts of the world sharing my story and my project. As I prepare for the one year anniversary of Her Journey Magazine I feel that I am well on my way to the level of success, and I’m excited to see how everything unfolds in the future.

I invite you all to view my online publication dedicated to women’s travel journeys as well as their journeys to fulfilling their individual purposes:

Your Ladder to Success…Kim Tumey Story

July 23rd, 2009

  Kim Tumey - Celebrity Broker

How I got started, well I was watching a movie called Motives in Feb. 2004 written by now good friend Kelsey Scott and loved it. So, I wanted to know who had written it so I could find other movies they had done.
So, I went to Google Kelsey and couldn’t find anything about her. Weird for me to have that much interest for some reason, anyway I searched for about 2 weeks then finally I found a message board (old message board might I add) no one had been on there for about 9 months.
So, I said what the heck and I left her a message stating how much I enjoyed the movie and that I lived in Dallas and we don’t have Red Carpet events. I also stated that if she ever needed any help I’d be more than happy to help her once she came to Dallas. Now, remember that was Feb.of 04 and I was in the mortgage biz and in Aug. of 04 I got tired of they way people were being treated and decided to quit. I prayed to God for guidance since I had NO plan and was now jobless.

Well, Sept. of 04 comes around and my phone rings, hmmmmm guess who it is Ms. Kelsey Scott my earth angel is what I call her now. By this time I have forgotten about her, then she reminds me of the messgae board and goes on to tell me what she had been doing. Kelsey then proceeded to ask me what I did for a living. Well, I laughed and said nothing now I just quit my job and told her how that came about. Kelsey went on to say well in your message to me you said that you would not mind putting Red Carpet events together and that they would be doing a part 2 to Motives. Kelsey stated that if you’re serious I will hook you up wth Vivica A. Fox who starred in the movie as well as Sean Blakemore who now is my mentor and good friend, Joe Torry and others.

So, that my friend is how I got started! Gosh when God has something for you, NO One can take it! Stand still and let God work for you and your dream will happen sooner. God bless you Kelsey Scott and I love you Girl.

P.S. Just in case you think it’s been easy, PLEASE do NOT think that I haven’t been through, because I have!!!
Be a believer in YOU,

I’m telling my story: 6/17/09

June 17th, 2009

Often times I remember the horrible things dad had done to me sexually. I never could put them together in one event. I remember alittle bit about one day here and there. So bare with me as I tell you my story.

I use to go visit my grandparents on weekends and vacation time until I ended up living with them permenately. One night my grandparents went out with their friends and I was home alone with my dad. Before grandma left she told me to wash the dishes then take a bath. So you know I have to do as told.

When I went to do the dishes my father demanded I take a shower. Why I asked…Grandma wants me to do the dishes first. We went back and forth (I wasn’t disrespectful at all). Then I went to the bathroom to clean the tub get my pajamas, etc. As I was runnning the bath water, dad came in and screamed and said I told you to take a shower. So then I got really scared. So I became angry and said NO! and went to wash the dishes. Now I’m not taking anything until my grandparents come back. This is what I said to my dad. I was in the 6th grade at the time.

So I went to do the dishes and he was following me. He kept yelling and I said you make me sick. He smacked me in my face as a parent should do if you are being disrespectful, however he had other intentions. So out of reflex I smacked him with the knife I had in my hand in his face. Then he went in the room because he heard the keys in the door. It was my grandmother and grandfather.

When they seen me crying I told them what happened and they flipped out. My grandparents begin fighting with my dad. Grandpa hit him with a stick. It was horrible.

Now that I’m grown and I remember the whole event, I really believe the family knew my dad was molesting me or had an idea.

I wish someone had spoke up!

I’m telling my story: 6/5/09

I remember when I was younger, there was so much we as children were not suppose to know or say. In elementary school we had to write in our journals every morning before class actually started. You know I didn’t know much about voting, however I knew my mother didn’t go vote because I heard her say so. Anyway, one afternoon my mother was checking over my school work (which is what moms are suppose to do.) and she seen that I wrote in my journal that she didn’t go vote. She ask me why did I write that, and I said because it was on my mind. She told me to stop telling people her business or rather our personal business. At the time I didn’t understand, now I understand life. Once you put your personal business out then people are able to manipulate your words and your reasons. Or mom just didn’t want people in her business just because!

April Rising Star of the Month: Brenda Eason

May 6th, 2009

Meet Brenda Eason…..Creator of The Black Business Owners Network.

I’d like to introduce to you, one of the finest women I know. She is a very talented and determined young lady. She is all about helping people achieve their goals and get to the next level. Her name is Brenda Eason!

Brenda is a loving, and caring mother and great friend to many. She grew up in Washington, D.C., although she is a native of Norfolk, Virginia and has lived there several times throughout her life. She is the oldest of three girls who grew up with a single mother. Unfortunately her mother has passed away, however Ms. Eason is still striving to make her mom proud. She knows that her mom is looking down smiling.

Brenda has overcome so many obstacles throughout her life and career. She is a living testimony having been homeless at one point. She has seen a lot of things that has made her very savvy to most of the things that life has to throw at you. Her motivation and determination kept her from giving up. She kept striving and reaching for more until she made her way to the top. God took her to a place where she never expected to go, but he also brought her out and now she’s better than she was before she went there.

Ms. Eason was born to be a leader. She became an entrepreneur at an early age by owning several businesses by the age of 30. Having done all of that, Brenda’s determination still wouldn’t let her stop there. She believed she still had more to learn about business. Brenda began to search for other entrepreneurs that she could network with and learn from.

This is why she founded the Black Business Owners Network (BBON) located on the web at www.BBON.biz. Brenda had no idea that her personal exploration would turn out to be a powerhouse. The BBON is now more than 47,000 members strong and is still growing, making it the largest black networking community on the internet! Through her hard work and God given talent, she promoted the BBON with everything she had to make it a success.

Ms. Eason’s top three passions in life are empowering African Americans to go for their dreams, business and entertainment. On her newest radio program called Black Empowered, she gets to incorporate all three of these passions. Black Empowered is the Podcast about Business … Entertainment and everything else in between. This is the official weekly podcast of the BBON’s over 47,000 members! It can be found on the web at www.BlackEmpowered.com

In addition to Black Empowered, Ms. Eason is the “Business News You Can Use Reporter” on Careers From The Kitchen Table. A weekly radio program for home-based businesses, which currently has over half a million listeners. Each week she gives out helpful business tips and resources for home based businesses. She has also co-hosted Urban After Dark and now produces the portion of the show dedicated to the BBON.

Her latest project is being the co-founder of Elite Design Art, a family owned art company located on the web at www.EliteDesignArt.com and www.myspace.com/Elite_Design. Art is another big passion of Ms. Eason’s. Elite Design Art has created hundreds of abstract pieces of art. They consist of many celebrity drawings and abstract pieces of art. The portrait art division is the largest of the company. There are many holidays and special occasions in which people come to Elite Design Art to have a portrait drawn.

In recognition of Ms. Eason’s many accomplishments, BIG The Magazine featured her on the cover of their November issue. She has also received many awards in recognition of her success including the Small Business Networking Award. Ms. Eason is currently focusing her energy on being a motivational speaker and believes that her story of going from the bottom to the top will be very inspiring for all. Dreams really do come true!
